Fest of India - IT Exhibitions
Speech by Chief Minister of Penang
During FEST OF INDIA – IT EXHIBITIONS
19 APRIL 2015 (TOWN HALL)
His Excellency Mr. T.S. Tirumurti, High Commissioner of India
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great privilege for me to be the Chief Guest at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Multimedia Exhibition on the "RISE OF DIGITAL INDIA". This Exhibition has been brought to Malaysia by the High Commission of India in association with the National Council of Science Museum, India as part of the 'Festival of India in Malaysia 2015'.
I had the pleasure of inaugurating the Festival of India in Penang on 15th March, 2015 with the dance drama by the renowned Cultural Academy in Chennai Kalakshetra. Following that event, I am delighted to inaugurate this Multimedia Exhibition on the Rise of Digital India. Clearly both the dance drama and the Multimedia exhibition displays the power and significance of Indian civilization and culture as well as science and technology, a heady mix of the coexistence between the old and the new.
This exhibition gives a very vivid view of how a developing country under colonial rule can transform itself from a predominantly agricultural nation to a modern nation which now houses the third largest pool of scientific and technical personnel. One of the recent manifestation of India's strength in Science & Technology is the satellite which India successfully placed in the Martian Orbit - the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft reached its orbit in September last year. Entire designing and development was done by Indian scientists which also kept the total costs of the Mission low at US$ 73 million.
We hope that these cultural amd scientific excahnges will help to strengthen the relationship between the people of India and Penang.
I am confident that the people of Penang and those coming from other parts of Malaysia will thoroughly enjoy the Multimedia exhibition on the "Rise of Digital India'.
